one column, something floats
Anyway, it was a great night. I got see one of my top favourite bands for the second time this year and at a venue that is even greater than them! And beside me in my brilliant view comfy box ,I had 2 friends - which means it's my first seated Mogwai gig, my first Mogwai gig with company and my first at the Royal Albert Hall. Very impressed!
This - at least for now - is as big as it gets for an instrumental band, so it was inevitable that this would be a kind of hits show, so there was more loud, long tracks here than at the ICA earlier this year. The fact that they finally played all 16mins (maybe more) of 'Mogwai Fear Satan' at a gig I went to makes me just happy enough alone - and it was brilliant!
There were 2 encores, one of which featured a new song on their forthcoming soundtrack to the Zidane film, and then they ended with 20min 'My Father, My King'. No, actually they ended with feedback that I captured on my phone. Check the cool MYT (Mogwai Young Team) backdrop that was revealed after the dropping of a curtain (you need the latest QuickTime for below to load).
