What's happening in Austin


As the capital of Texas, Austin is a bustling city with a packed schedule. Every day features many events for visitors and residents alike to enjoy. Several major attractions draw tourists to Austin throughout the year.

The annual South by Southwest festival, held in the early spring, is one of the largest music festivals in the United States, featuring more than 2,000 performers playing in more than 90 venues. The Urban Music Festival celebrates jazz, gospel and R&B music in a family-friendly environment every March. Even when there aren't any festivals running, visitors can attend one of concerts held throughout the year at the Moody Theater, home of the acclaimed PBS series, "Austin City Limits."

Fans of live theater will be well-served in Austin. The Paramount Theater plays host to a variety of world-class acts, from touring Broadway musical theater shows to top-shelf comedians. The Rude Mechanicals offer a variety of unique and innovative avant-garde performances, all of them original works. Teatro Vivo produces a number of bilingual works, allowing Austin's diverse Latino population to express their dramatic urges.

Art connoisseurs will find plenty to admire within Austin. The Blanton Museum of Art, on the University of Texas campus, houses more than 17,000 artworks from around the world. The Arthouse at the Jones Center exhibits and sells classic and contemporary art. Austin also celebrates its Latino population at the Mexic-Arte Museum, which showcases works from Latin America's past and present.
